Great White Robberg Trail – Plettenberg Bay

Great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) viewings hike

Robberg Nature Reserve is a beautiful stretch of coastline located in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The reserve is home to a variety of hiking trails, which offer stunning views of the ocean and the surrounding countryside. Owner of Tony’s Tours, Tony Winslow had the privilege of meeting the world-renowned underwater cinematographer Roger Horrocks (My octopus teacher, Our planet and The Blue planet), whilst hiking on Robberg Nature Reserve and was amazed at how breath-taking it was to see these majestic animals so close and so clearly. According to Roger, Plettenberg Bay is the best place in the world to get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures due to the clear waters and abundance of seals. Robberg Nature Reserve offers a variety of hiking trails to choose from, ranging from easy to challenging. The most popular trail is the Robberg Trail, which is a 5-kilometer loop that takes hikers around the entire peninsula. The trail offers stunning views of the ocean and the surrounding coastline, and it is a great way to see a variety of wildlife, including dolphins, seals, whales and a variety of birdlife. The reserve is also home to a number of small mammals, including dassies, mongooses, and meerkats. This is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and hikers alike.
